Mother Matrix is a rather young Dutch rock band that has first seen the light in April 2004. The band members are Kees Smeets (Bass/Keyboard), Rick Bours (Drums), Tom Kluskens (Vocals/Guitar) en Maurice Timmerman (Guitar). Each of the member has different musical preferences, which probably makes the song writing process very ‘interesting’. The result of this process is a refreshing debut cd called Home: an emotional guitar rock album with psychedelic influences. It is remarkable that these young musicians have written such emotional songs, which makes this album quite different from the main stream. You have to listen to this album a couple of times, it grows on you.
Mother Matrix played in the program of the Macalpine/Sheehan/Donati show in The Bosuil (Weert) on the 24th September (see also the review on this site). The first song of their show was a catchy rock song with a great psychedelic part half-way; it happened to be a triptych.

On the album Home these three parts are separate songs (I for an I, Guide me, For another I), at the live performance the songs shaded off into one another. Besides these, the album contains songs in different kinds of rock: up-tempo (Motor Race), progressive (Nothing Happens), ballad (the beautiful Comfort) and psychedelic rock (Under)
Favorite songs are Under, The Purify and Higher, all great psychedelic rock songs with strong structure and melody, lasting over 5 minutes each. Especially Higher is an amazing song that I really like, with a great solo and a strong structure. I think Home is a great debut album with an outstanding sound and production! I think we will be hearing a lot of this band in the future.
