Listening to Jon Bonamassa’s first live compilation A New Day Yesterday LIVE made me wonder why these blues rock guitarists keep releasing studio albums. The fact is that this music sounds so much better with that explicit raw live edge. Bonamassa might have figured this out by himself because A New Day Yesterday LIVE is nothing less than a live performance of his Y2K debut album with the same title, except for the LIVE addition of course. This album sounds really good. I particularly like the noises created by the crowd and the excellent production. This does feel like actually being there! Another thing that impressed me was the vocal quality of Bonamassa. | |
It almost makes you glad that Bloodline disbanded. Otherwise we would never have had the opportunity to listen to this man, expressing his blues on guitars as well as his vocals. If you like high speed blues with balls, you should definitely check this release out. If you don’t hesitate too long you can even buy the limited edition version. It features a free bonus DVD of the full concert plus two extra tracks. Without having seen a glimpse of the DVD I will assure you that it is value for money! (Geert) |
